Why Now?

The law doesn't disappear. It shifts to a different level.

The legal profession is undergoing a paradoxical transformation. AI is gradually automating some of the tasks that used to be the first experiences of young lawyers: document research, monitoring developments, reviewing contracts, comparing clauses, summarizing case law, and due diligence.

At the same time, organizations have never had a greater need for legal expertise to govern the technologies they deploy. As data, generative AI, autonomous agents, and foundation models become integrated into business processes, the questions keep piling up.

Questions that arise:

  • What data can be used?
  • What system can be deployed, and under what conditions?
  • Who is responsible? What risks need to be monitored?
  • How can compliance be demonstrated?
  • When should humans take back control?
  • Even if the law allows it, should we really do it?

Governing an AI isn't just about reading a set of rules. You have to understand how the system is built.

The legal market is shifting on two fronts

AI is automating some legal work at the very moment its governance is becoming a market.

41%

Law firms and 47% of corporate legal departments will already be using generative AI by 2026. Applications include: literature reviews, legal research, summarization, and drafting memos and contracts.

Thomson Reuters, "AI in Professional Services Report 2026"

80%

Legal professionals believe that AI will have a significant or transformative impact on their work over the next five years. AI tools could already save them nearly 240 hours a year.

Thomson Reuters, Future of Professionals / Legal AI 2026

− 7.5%

entry-level hires at major U.S. law firms in 2025. This is the first decline recorded in more than ten years.

NALP / Reuters, 2026

77%

Some organizations are already working to establish AI governance (nearly 90% of those that already use AI). Only 1.5% do not foresee any additional needs over the next twelve months.

The law does not lose its importance. Value is shifting toward those who will be able to manage technology.

“The paradox is a historical one: AI is automating some of the entry-level legal tasks at the very moment when the explosion of regulations is creating new needs in governance, risk, and compliance. Those who can bridge the gaps between law, technology, and accountability will not be left behind by this transformation—they will become its most sought-after players.”

Positioning

You can't govern what you don't understand.

The MSc program is designed for graduates with a five-year degree in law or a legal specialization, as well as professionals seeking to develop advanced expertise in the governance of AI and data. Its goal is not to retrain students in law.

Not data scientists. Not AI engineers.

Nor should lawyers be forced to view technology as a black box. The program equips them with the technical understanding needed to engage with data and AI teams, scrutinize architectures, identify risks, challenge technology choices, and audit the systems they will be responsible for governing.

At the end of the course

What graduates will be able to do upon completion of the program.

  • Understanding the continuum: Data → ML → Generative AI → RAG → Agents → Agent-based Systems.
  • Classify systems, data, stakeholders, and uses to identify the applicable obligations.
  • Governing Data and AI Systems: Responsibilities, Policies, Controls, and Human Oversight.
  • Assess legal, technological, ethical, reputational, human, and sovereignty risks.
  • Auditing and monitoring an AI system: architecture, data, models, agents, logs, and monitoring.
  • Using and Building with AI to Enhance Legal Operations and Compliance.
  • Strike a balance between innovation, performance, fundamental rights, ethics, trust, and responsibility.

Law+Technology+Risk+Ethics+Governance

The law remains the foundation. Technology helps us understand what we are regulating. Governance helps transform rules into trust.

Six Abilities + Discernment

Understand → Assess → Govern → Evaluate → Audit → Transform

Understand

Understand technology well enough to be able to manage it.

How data, models, tools, and agents interact; where dependencies lie; and how risks arise.

Qualify

To turn a technology or practice into a legal issue.

Identify what a system actually is, what data it uses, and what legal frameworks apply to it.

To govern

Translate the rules into organizational structures, responsibilities, and controls.

Determine who can do what, using what technology, with what data, under what conditions, and with what evidence.

Evaluate

Identify not only the risks but also the ethical limitations of a system.

Be able to answer two distinct questions: “Can we do it?” and “Should we do it?”

Audit

Move from declared compliance to demonstrated compliance.

Understand what a system does, what data it uses, and when a human needs to take over. Become a technologically competent GRC auditor.

Transform

Making AI a New Tool for Legal Professionals and Compliance.

How could we reshape the legal profession if lawyers and AI agents worked together from the very beginning of the design process?

Discern

When technology becomes capable of generating a response, a recommendation, or an action, the value of the lawyer shifts to their ability to assess its legality, relevance, and acceptability.

One program. Many ways to experience it.

Two complementary student groups, the same curriculum, the same degree.

Young legal professionals with a master’s degree who are developing their specialization, and professionals who wish to add AI Governance, Risk, and Compliance to their expertise. All of them follow the same curriculum and develop the same skills.

Why Aivancity?

An M.S. program that prepares legal professionals to govern AI must be designed by a school founded specifically for AI.

aivancity is a French Grande École dedicated to Artificial Intelligence and Data. It did not simply add AI to a traditional educational model; rather, it was built around AI, based on a hybrid model that combines technology, business, and ethics.
