Having revolutionized conversational assistants with ChatGPT and then artificial intelligence agents with Codex, OpenAI is taking a new step by venturing into hardware. In partnership with US manufacturer Work Louder<\/strong>, the company is unveiling Codex Micro<\/strong>, a programmable mini keyboard designed to simplify interactions with its AI agents. The goal is not to replace the traditional keyboard, but to give heavy Codex users instant access to the main AI commands without interrupting their workflow.1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sold in the United States for $230<\/strong>, Codex Micro is aimed primarily at developers, but OpenAI believes its uses could quickly extend to other professions that rely on AI agents every day to automate their tasks. The launch also marks the company’s first real foray into hardware, a few months after acquiring io, the startup founded by Jony Ive, Apple’s iconic former designer.2<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Codex Micro does not replace the AZERTY or QWERTY keyboard connected to the computer. It sits alongside it as a specialized peripheral dedicated entirely to interacting with Codex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea is simple: reduce the number of clicks, keyboard shortcuts and steps needed to launch, supervise or stop artificial intelligence agents. Users can trigger their favorite workflows, create new sessions, accept or reject AI-generated suggestions, or communicate directly with their agents without leaving their development environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This approach reflects a major shift in generative AI. Users are no longer simply chatting with a chatbot; they now supervise multiple agents capable of working on different tasks simultaneously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A wealth of controls in a compact format<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Despite its small size, Codex Micro packs several physical controls designed to streamline day-to-day work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the center of the device is a programmable joystick<\/strong> for quickly launching the most frequently used workflows. A control dial<\/strong> lets users dynamically adjust the reasoning level of OpenAI’s models according to the complexity of the task: a fast mode for simple operations, or deeper reasoning when more analysis is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The keyboard also includes several fully customizable keys dedicated to Codex’s main functions: starting a new conversation, approving or rejecting suggestions generated by agents, running specific commands or activating voice mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
